Summer Schools

Play/Act: “Acting-up in the holidays”

Play/Act is a summer acting school between the hours of 10am and 3pm (Mon- Fri) for keen and creative youngsters aged between 11 and 16 years old in Chorlton, Didsbury and Levenshulme locations. Course duration is one week and there are four weeks to choose from every year during July and August (see below to book).

This is a great opportunity for youngsters to tap into their own creativity and develop the confidence to improve communication and social skills, as well as discover any emerging talent for acting or performance.

During the week, youngsters take part in daily fun warm-up exercises, create numerous short sketches and finally improvise and script their own ‘play-in-a-day’. This play, built democratically by the youngsters, is then performed in front of friends and family to celebrate the successful end of the week. The design of the course ensures cliques never form and the emphasis is always upon the free creative flow of ideas; the youngsters are welcomed into a supportive environment where all get to contribute ideas and see them realised. Other skills the children will develop include acting in groups, compromise skills, voice projection and listening skills.

The play-in-a-day aspect of the course has been hosted at several international schools in Hong Kong in 2006 and 2008, where it proved hugely successful.
