Class/Act: “the curriculum alive”
A school-based day-long workshop between 10am and 3pm for students aged between eleven and sixteen years old. Workshops take place during term-time and are designed to consolidate curriculum-linked learning.
Students will take part in fun warm-up exercises, create numerous short sketches and finally improvise and script their own curriculum-linked ‘play-in-a-day’. At the end of the workshop this play, built democratically by the students, is performed for invited friends and family. The design of the day ensures cliques never form and the emphasis is always upon having fun and the free creative flow of ideas; the students are welcomed into a supportive environment where all get to contribute ideas and see them realised.
This is a great opportunity for students to tap into their natural creativity and develop the confidence to improve communication and social skills, as well as discover and encourage any emerging talent for acting or performance.
Other skills developed include acting in groups, voice projection, listening ability and compromise.
The same workshop has been hosted with great success in Hong Kong, at both the 'German-Swiss International School' and 'The Island School' and has proved hugely important for young people’s personal development.
