Acting For Fun Course Breakdown:
Level I: Beginners (Sept – Dec):
“improvise, make friends, enjoy!”
The emphasis at this early stage of the course is about having fun and building confidence in a supportive environment by working in small groups of like-minded people and developing ideas into short, lively sketches that are performed to the class and discussed. Positive feedback is a given and you never act alone.
“I would like to say that I had a great time on the course. It would be no exaggeration to say that it was the highlight of my year. In fact, it’s fair to say that it is pretty much the only meaningful thing i've done this year.” – Tony
Level II: Intermediate (Jan – March):
“evolve skills, unleash potential.”
Your confidence evolves during this part of the course as you act in smaller groups and further develop your acting skills through informative and constructive feedback in a continuing supportive environment. Props are now used to bring characters to life and sketches are longer and more-layered, reflecting your increasingly sophisticated stage skills. Students will also have the opportunity to be filmed so as to develop a greater awareness of their stage presence, voice projection and pace.. Two sessions of ‘street theatre’ are among the memorable highlights of this stage.
“I had a totally great time on the intermediate course. The best thing for me was the way we built up the improvisations until we could get them to go for 20 mins without any real trouble. I thought that they were great fun. Also, I think that I have taken a lot away from the course that has aided me with my personal development and inter-personal skills. It was nice to get more of an insight into what real acting is really about. I now really appreciate good acting on-screen when I see it. Overall, an excellent course.” - Danny
Level III: Advanced (April – June):
reach peaks of confidence, act!
All your new-found skills and confidence are now brought together in the performing of a theatre play, either for recording on DVD or – if you prefer - in front of friends and family. You shall all share the main characters ( learning and performing two scenes each ), source your own props and costume and, between you, both mount and present the entire play. A memorable and amazing end to your Acting For Fun experience and a lasting proof of the journey you have completed.
“The course was absolutely great, really well structured. Your material was pitched at the right level and always interesting. You've obviously put a lot of effort into the prep and this showed on the night. A good mix of projects - working in two’s, three’s and larger groups and rotating partners made it all the more challenging. I found being dragged out of my comfort zone to be particularly rewarding. Working with a great group of people made it even better, Everyone worked really well together. Thank you. The course was very entertaining and enjoyable and I felt I learnt a lot from it. Really good value for money” - Eric
Level III+: Advanced Residential (July):
“Do it all again - on holiday!”
An intensive weekend Residential Acting School - dependent on numbers - that calls upon and consolidates every skill learned throughout the course. In just 48 hours – via an ongoing democratic process – you will create and perform two 30 minute plays from scratch. With the results being filmed and later presented to you on DVD it shall be a highly-strctured, lively and utterly involving experience that you will never forget .. and that’s before you even look around the lovely location and sample the nearby pubs!
- Residential course not included in class fee.
